HOW TO DEAL WITH STRESS AND DEPRESSION

Stress is an unfortunate result of today's hectic lifestyle and many people suffer from it, but when it leads to depression, the situation can be more serious. Here are some tips on how to deal with stress and depression.

Tip #1. Try to be organised. Write lists daily of what you need to achieve and if possible put a timescale by each item. If you attack your daily tasks in a methodical way, you won't get so stressed out.

Tip #2. If you feel the stress building up and threatening to overwhelm you, take a minute to take some deep breaths, preferably sitting down. Breathe in deeply and out slowly. Repeat until you feel better.

Tip #3. Don't skip lunch. Take time to rest, relax and recharge your batteries with a healthy meal or snack.

Tip #4. One of the most effective ways how to deal with stress and depression is to take some exercise. Outdoors is best as you get the benefit of fresh air but in a gym or in your own home will do. Physical exertion releases endorphins in the brain which bring on a feeling of well-being. After twenty minutes, you'll feel as if you could take on anything or anyone.

Tip #5. Relax after work with a nice glass of wine but be very careful if you are taking any medication. If you can't or don't drink alcohol, herbal tea is a great relaxant.

Tip #6. At the end of the day, have a warm relaxing bath complete with soft music and scented candles. If you have difficulty sleeping, this will help tremendously. You might want to have a hot milky drink too.

Tip #7. If you aren't sleeping or you feel that your depression has gone beyond what you would reasonably expect from a stressed lifestyle, see your doctor. He may discover that you have an underlying medical condition which is causing your stress and depression and he may well prescribe anti-depressants or sleeping tablets.

Tip #8. If you know that there is a specific cause for your depression such as relationship problems or bereavement, then you need to talk to someone. You could try talking to a friend just to get it off your chest, but you should consider seeing a professional counsellor who will be able to get your problems into perspective.

Here are some helpful tips:


U need to develop biphasic sleeping habits. You will gain more energy and sleep less.

Take a 2 hour nap at about 5 pm everyday. Then sleep at about 12 and wake up at four.

You will need a couple of weeks for your body to adapt to the new sleep schedule but after you adapt.  You will sleep less and read more. Or whatever you choose to do with your extra time.


You need 8hrs of sleep per day to fully recharge your batteries. Anything less than that you not be at 100% effectiveness (although functioning). So unless you get rid of some of your daily activities, cutting on your sleep is only going to make it worse because your mind won't be at its full potential.
Of course, many people who only sleep 4hrs per day (everyday) will tell you that they "feel" perfectly fine, while deep down they don't.

Bad Breath - A Helpful Tip

Aside from being irritating bad breath can be a sign of other health conditions which won't be covered here. Instead we are to assume that bad breath is not a health risk and instead is the result of an odor coming from your mouth or digestive tract and will cover how to detect bad breath and how to fix it.

Detecting bad breath can be hard due to acclimatised to your own smell, as a result you run the risk of having to be told that you breath stinks, by a friend who is fed up with you breathing on them during conversation or horror of horrors when kissing a partner. Worst of all still is having bad breath but never knowing, remember that guy who didn't return your calls, or the girl that was keen but ran of when she got up close - yep bad breath (well maybe).

A simple test


Lick your hand and leave it to dry for a moment, then smell. That is what your breath smells like, was it pleasant? or did you reach for a gag bag?

The reason why your breath smells is most likely because of something you ate fairly recently which should go away over the next day or so, or more likely, due to the presence of anaerobic bacteria in the mouth which feed on the leftovers after eating.

I can probably guarantee that you did not enjoy the smell, and whilst there will always be some kind of odor no matter what you do (you have to eat) there are several ways you can minimize the smell. 



We'll start with a few no brainers,

The no brainers


Clean your teeth - everyone does this but how well do you actually clean. Morning and night should be the norm, even after every meal if necessary, remember to floss.

Eat neutral foods - if your breath smells of garlic, stop eating garlic, if it stinks of cheese stop eating cheese. You get this one

The not so obvious


Clean your tongue - nearly all bad breath can be significantly reduced in most cases by a good cleaning of the tongue. The tongue like the teeth can hold onto food which can become embedded in the grooves of the tongue thereby acting as a nice food storage vat that bacteria can feast of yet very few actively take to time to make sure it is clean.

How to clean the tongue:

1- wet the mouth


2- using a tooth brush start at the back of the tongue and scrap forward


3- repeat until fairly clean and free of debris


4- apply toothpaste to tongue


5- rub into tongue and leave for a moment


6- using a tooth brush start at the back of the tongue and scrap forward

note - make sure you clean as far back as you can!!!
